What do girls want? If you only have dolls, frills and pinks in mind, it’s time to get your head out of the sand and look around. Girls’ interests nowadays have gone far beyond these sweet things. Sports, action heroes, blues and greens, and other adventurous things now capture girls’ attention.
Before decorating your little girl’s bedroom, know her interests, likes and favorites. Ask her to work with you in decorating her bedroom. I’m sure she’ll be more than happy to pitch in. Be prepared with a pen and paper for all the things she might excitedly spill out. If your memory needs some sharpening, you’ll need to jot down notes, Mom.
Let her know if you’re working on a tight budget. You don’t have to outline your financial status to her but at least give her an idea what you could and could not buy. Starting the decorating work on the right track means you understand each other and that all things are clear. You bet she wouldn’t mind the least. A redecorated bedroom as is, regardless of the budget is enough to make her happy.
One theme to consider is the beach design. If your little girl loves the water, she will get a blast from staying in a room that reminds her of her beach adventures and of the magical ocean. Paint the walls with the beach hues of blues and greens, as well as the sand color of tan or cream, and white reminiscent of the clouds and waves. A rug with a similar color or a beach design will complete the decors.
Star Bright: Not many urban kids get to see stars on a regular basis, so decorating your daughter’s room with stars could be both unusual and educational. Instead of a wallpaper border, consider sponge-painting a star border around the room. Enhance the starlight romance with a couple of starry mobiles and perhaps a star-shaped area rug. Or go deeply into the night by painting the ceiling midnight blue and adorn it with glow-in-the-dark stars. A moon-and-stars cutout on the bed’s headboard, along with star fabric and a quilt will complete the look.
A popular theme among girls is the fairy tales or fantasy decor. Who hasn’t adored fairy tale princesses, magical creatures, fairies, prince charming and other lovely characters in a fairy tale? This is where the soft colors of pastels come in. Light shades are also very much welcome even in the hues of blue or green. You can accent the walls with a painting of the woodland, lake, waterfalls and meadows. An area rug in a romantic pink or other feminine color is an ideal fit.
Fairy Tale Cottage: When the decorating scheme includes some gently used furniture, consider turning her bedroom into a fairy-tale cottage. You could give her an all-white room, including painting the furniture, and then add interest and variety by changing out the room’s accessories in different colors periodically. Be sure to use a semi-gloss paint on the walls for easier clean-ups.
Fluttering By: There’s no doubt about it: Butterflies are big with little girls. What’s more, in the past few years butterflies have become big in home decor as well. That makes it easy to transform your daughter’s bedroom into a butterfly sanctuary. Turn her walls into a garden scene with dozens of butterflies and chose butterfly designs for window treatments and bedding and a butterfly area rug for the floor. Here’s a nice touch: Get some butterfly hair clips and attach them to her curtains, lampshades and other places.
Home Decorating experts all agree that it is essential to use area rugs. And as discussed here one of the most popular ranges is the girls rugs.
