Reach the roof with the help of a ladder which is grounded firmly. Observe the surface area of the shingled roof and note down the dimensions of the area with the help of a measuring instrument.
Leave 3 or 4 inches on either side of the original dimensions such that any miscalculation can be compensated later. Also, derive some valuable suggestion from the salesperson of a local hardware store regarding the same.
Kick off the actual task of removing the old shingles. You can bring in a roofing shovel or a pry bar tool to ease up this particular task to a large extent. Place the business-end of the tool underneath the edge of the shingle and push down the tool from the other end. Once you notice the nails getting uprooted, place a wooden bar in the gap under the head of the nails. Now, a fulcrum setup is rendered to the task which helps in easily detaching the concerned shingle.
Take the panels of tin or copper to your roof one by one. Determine the edge of the roof from where you would commence the installation task. Place the first metal panel on the determined position and screw it from the top first. Make sure that the panel hangs out of the roof a bit. Repeat the similar process for other panels as well and render final touch to the setup by cementing the nails.
